How to measure your space
Note: Send pictures of the space and all the walls and any details, the more the better.
The Floor Plan: (general dimensions)
1. Sketch a hand drawn floor plan of the room & make a copy before adding in any dimensions. Include only main distances on this first plan.
2. Use a tape measure and note the distance between opposite walls.
3. Label each wall with its corresponding direction (north, south, etc.).
4. Note any floor vents or floor electrical outlets on the plan, if there are any.
5. Identify the location of any ceiling light fixtures or can lights. This can be an approximate, it doesn’t need to be perfect. Pictures are great too.
6. Note ceiling height.

The Floor Plan: (interior dimensions) Don’t worry too much about being perfect, if I have a question about any dimensions I’ll reach out to you. Before construction starts all dimensions are to be verified in the field and marked clearly on site.
1. Sketch a hand drawn floor plan of the room (use copy of the first one). Include all doors, windows, openings, closets, and any changes in the wall (bump-outs, set-backs, angles).
2. Use a tape measure and note the distance between opposite walls.
3. Label each wall with its corresponding direction (north, south, etc.).
The walls: pictures are usually all I need, unless there is any electrical box or any other items on walls that you couldn’t add dimensions on floor plan.
1. Sketch each wall as you face it. Label each of the drawings north, south, etc., so we can match the walls to the floor plan.
2. Measure the distance from the floor to the ceiling, and from one end of the wall to the other.
3. Draw in the wall’s basic features, like openings, doors, windows, built-ins, closets, or bump-outs. (only if needed and not noted on floor plan)
4. Starting in a corner, measure the distance from one feature to the next. (Please include the trim in your measurements for doors and windows. Do not measure the trim separately.)
5. Indicate the heights of doors, openings and other permanent features. For windows and anything ‘floating’ on the wall, measure from the floor to the bottom of the fixture, then the height of the fixture itself. For sconces, measure from the floor to the electrical wall connection, and from that connection to the side wall.
6. Fill in any other permanent features of the wall, such as wainscoting, light fixtures and switches, outlets or vents, marking their locations as described in steps 4 and 5.
