How to select the right rug design/type for your home?⁠ ⁠

I start with the question, what room is it for? Is it a high traffic area? if so I don't go for a very expensive rug at my house, if something where to happen like my girls drop food on it I don't want to be too stressed about it but if you need one for a sitting room I would splurge there.⁠ ⁠

What about the look?

I select rugs by asking my clients what will be on top of it, a beautiful rug with a medallion would be lost under a dinning table or a bed, so I select one with a great border instead.

What about patterns you ask?

I select the rug color and pattern depending on what is going on with the rest of the decor in the room, you have neutral walls and sofa? ⁠I would select a colorful rug (go with the colors that you love!), red furniture or strong patterns in the room? I go for a more neutral rug... balance is your friend here 💙⁠ ⁠

Rugs should contain and define the furniture placement and define an area and also be large enough. 

My favorite shortcut to decide what dimension is the best is, define the area you want to cover with painter’s tape, this will give you an idea of the right size for you no more guessing or returning!
